Nuclear Pioneer variant with 10x40mm crystal coupled with Silicon Photomultiplier and pancake Geiger Sensor. Pancake tube works as excellent combination for detecting low energy beta and alpha. Unit is not for sell, just proof of concept.

Released 4.14 firmware update. It can be downloaded from the official page.

What is new in 4.14 firmware:

In scintillation mode added Waterfall Histogram for energy distribution and CPS intensity estimation. The scale has the same zoom settings as the main MCA window: 512-4096 channels.  Waterfall zoom can be set in the LCD ZOOM X menu.

In scintillation mode added basic identification for Am-241, Cs-137, Ra-226, U-235. Please note, scintillation mode identification does not replace the main MCA RIID mode and has less performance of the identification results compared with the MCA mode. However, it can be a nice add-on along with the new Waterfall Histogram.

Fixed bug in CSV file date. Now the day and month of the recorded CSV spectrum are displayed correctly.

Improved activity calculator. Now it has a better precision function to get efficiency for the selected geometry. You may need to re-calibrate the correction factor in the activity menu.

Improved geometry selection menu. Now the menu scrolling list starts with the previously selected crystal size.

Fixed a few small bugs in the internal maintenance.

Added internal test for erratic value or temperature sensor disconnection. Now if the sensor read wasn't completed, the temperature readings will be displayed as "--.-" until the next read try.

Working on the RIID's library update to include Tc-99m. Really challenging task because 122keV of Co-57 and 141keV of Tc-99m are too close to each other to cause misinterpretation between both isotopes when a various resolution NaI(Tl)/CsI(Tl) probes are connected. If you know how differ probes on low energy range you know what I'm talking about.   

But Nuclear Pioneer software has analytic tools to re-solve that puzzle. Here on the photos all identity results are correct, although energy scale has some inaccuracies.

Beautiful spectra data from LaBr crystal. Excellent linearity and excellent resolution detector.
Data imported to Nuclear Pioneer RIID for testing how the RIID software can handle it. Pioneer's identification algorithm works just flawlessly.

I guess a LaBr crystal is very expensive compared to Nal or Csl ?

And for contrast, the best and the worse. Be honest, 12% detector worth to buy only if it large volume like 63x63mm or 80x80mm. Large volume efficiency can still somehow compensate poor resolution in some applications. Small size 12% is the waste spectroscopy resources for the MCA.
25x25mm LaBr is extremely expensive for average hobbyist like me, but it has amazing efficiency at high energy compared with 25x25mm NaI(Tl). And the ~3% resolution with flat linearity makes it more interesting for RIID application.

@rhelectronics  Please note that nobody in Germany calculates with the non-SI-unit "Curie", we have been using "Becquerel" for what feels like more than 30 years. The unit should be switchable, I don't know if it is yet.

Here we use both units. The medical isotope injection measured in Bq, but the control sample machine works with Ci. Anyway it just simple conversion.

Was sagt ihr dazu? https://t1p.de/a0y2o ist das zu gebrauchen? Das ist ein Gammaspektrometer mit Display, man muss also nur Strom an das Gerät anschließen und sein PMT mit Kristall. Dann muss man das Ganze kalibrieren und man kann Gammaspektren aufnehmen. Taugt das was?
